A washer that won’t complete a cycle

I met this nice young couple in Lavonia, way out on beautiful Lake Hartwell. They enjoy the calm, and live close to his work and Clemson.

The washer CCU stored a “LONG FILL” error code. Before freaking out over some catastrophic failure, I tipped the washer forward and disconnected the COLD fill line. There I found this:

The orange coating you see is Georgia’s famous clay; the white plastic screen catches sediment through COLD water fill.
After cleaning and reinserting the screen, the washer successfully completes multiple wash cycles. If you have well water in your home, clean your COLD water screen every two to four weeks.
